Co-warehousing Firm WareSpace Buys Second Building in D.C. Region, Eyes More
Co-warehousing firm WareSpace buys second building in D.C. region, eyes more
WareSpace LLC, a co-warehousing company that targets small businesses, recently bought a commercial building on the D.C.-Maryland line, a key step toward its goal of roughly doubling its portfolio by the end of 2025.
It’s the 7-year-old firm’s second location in Greater Washington; the other — WareSpace's first ever — is in Lanham.
A third regional acquisition in Northern Virginia is on the horizon, as the company aims to increase its nationwide portfolio from 1.7 million to 3 million square feet this year, co-founder and Chief Operation Officer Joseph Ely said to the Washington Business Journal.
WareSpace, based in Columbia, Maryland, acquired the roughly 83,000-square-foot, two-story, 1960s-era warehouse at 3342 Bladensburg Road in Brentwood, right on Prince George’s County’s border with D.C., for about $10.5 million on March 19.
WareSpace plans to modernize the building, including upgrading its mechanical systems, and split it into 80 to 100 spaces suitable in size and accessible in rental cost for small businesses, with an anticipated opening in the fall, Ely said.

Prince George’s County: The Capital of Quantum Innovation Strengthens Its Global Leadership
Prince George’s County: The Capital of Quantum Innovation Strengthens Its Global Leadership
Maryland’s position as a global leader in quantum science and innovation has taken another major leap forward. Governor Wes Moore announced a landmark partnership with the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to establish the Capital of Quantum Benchmarking Hub at the University of Maryland's Discovery District in College Park, one of Prince George’s County’s fastest-growing innovation corridors.
This agreement formalizes a new state-federal collaboration that will unlock up to $100 million in federal investment to accelerate Maryland’s rapidly growing quantum industry. The announcement, made at the University of Maryland’s Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS), included Governor Moore, University of Maryland President Darryll J. Pines, DARPA Microsystems Technology Office Program Manager Joe Altepeter, and ARLIS Executive Director Dr. John Beieler.
“Today, we write the next chapter in our work to make Maryland the global capital of quantum,” said Governor Moore. “This new collaboration with DARPA is about leveraging Maryland’s world-class assets to grow our economy, create jobs, and enhance our national security. Together, we will continue to drive innovation through durable partnerships that leave no one behind.”
The partnership will further elevate Prince George’s County as the Capital of Quantum, anchored by the University of Maryland’s Discovery District—already home to leading quantum technology innovators such as IonQ, Quantum Catalyzer (Q-Cat), and other cutting-edge research labs. This vibrant hub is positioning Prince George’s County as a global epicenter for quantum research, technology commercialization, and workforce development.
In January, Governor Moore launched the Capital of Quantum Initiative, a public-private partnership involving the University of Maryland, College Park, and IonQ, aimed at catalyzing over $1 billion in investments to grow Maryland’s quantum economy. Today’s agreement builds on that momentum, cementing Prince George’s County’s role as a strategic gateway for quantum development nationally and globally.
“The University of Maryland is proud to serve as the home of the Capital Quantum Benchmarking Hub and to play a pivotal role in advancing the nation’s quantum future,” said University of Maryland President Darryll J. Pines. “This partnership with DARPA and the State of Maryland underscores our long-standing commitment to cutting-edge research and national security. Together, we are building the infrastructure and expertise needed to evaluate, refine, and ultimately realize the promise of quantum computing.”
DARPA’s Quantum Benchmarking Initiative (QBI) will establish an independent, world-class test and evaluation team in Prince George’s County to rigorously assess quantum computing platforms.
“As part of QBI, we are building the world’s largest and most qualified independent quantum computing test and evaluation team, so that we can rigorously test commercial approaches to determine what’s viable and what’s hype,” said DARPA Program Manager Joe Altepeter. “The Capital Quantum Benchmarking Hub will provide an additional research and testing facility for our experts to evaluate plans and systems of the quantum computing companies that progress through the QBI program.”
Dr. John Beieler, Executive Director of ARLIS, emphasized the strategic significance of the new hub:
“Hosting the Capital Quantum Benchmarking Hub reflects our commitment to partnering across government, academia, and industry to drive innovation and deliver trusted solutions for the Department of Defense and Intelligence Community. We are honored to collaborate with the State of Maryland and DARPA to help advance the promise of quantum computing and strengthen our nation’s technological leadership.”
The Discovery District is a thriving ecosystem that fuels Prince George’s County’s economic development priorities in technology, life sciences, and education. With groundbreaking companies like IonQ—the world’s first publicly traded pure-play quantum computing company—and dynamic public-private partnerships, the Discovery District continues to attract world-class talent, private investment, and federal resources.
The Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation applauds this transformative partnership, recognizing that quantum computing and innovation are vital to driving the next generation of economic growth, national security, and global competitiveness.
Prince George’s County is not just participating in the future of technology—we are leading it.

A homegrown educational travel company, Going Global with Barbara, is making international dreams a reality for local youth—and now celebrates a major milestone: their 100th International Youth Leadership Program student will travel to Paris, France on April 12, 2025.
Founded in 2019 by retired Navy officer and leadership development professional Barbara Eubanks, Going Global with Barbara was born from a simple but powerful mission: to close the access and opportunity gap for students from underserved communities seeking international educational experiences. Eubanks’ passion for leadership development and global education stems from her own experiences in the military and corporate sectors, where she witnessed firsthand the life-changing impact of travel and exposure to diverse perspectives.
“Throughout my career, I saw the positive outcomes that international experiences can have. Yet, most students in our communities never have the chance to participate in study abroad programs due to barriers like financial access and lack of awareness,” said Eubanks. “I founded Going Global to help close that gap—one student, one trip at a time.”
Eubanks will personally lead her 10th student cohort on this upcoming journey, with Addyson Kennedy, a local student, becoming Going Global’s 100th traveler. The trip includes 13 students and six chaperones who will engage in a robust itinerary: visiting two colleges, embarking on a Black history tour, and attending a networking event hosted by the U.S. Embassy. The experience is carefully designed to build participants’ confidence, cultural competence, and leadership skills—qualities highly sought after by both colleges and employers.
The impact of Going Global has been transformative, not only for Prince George’s County students but for young people across the nation. Students participate in a six-week online preparation course before traveling together as a cohort to destinations such as Paris, Barcelona, Senegal, or Jordan. Given that students of color represent only about 6% of American study abroad participants, the program plays a critical role in broadening access and shaping a more diverse future for international leadership.
Alexis Allen-Shorter, PGCEDC’s Health & Life Sciences Director, has played a vital role in supporting Going Global through County initiatives like the EmpowerHER Summits (2024 and 2025) and the She Means Business series. She shared her perspective on the program’s local impact:
“I have had the pleasure of working with Barbara through her organization, Going Global, which empowers youth to build international connections and leadership skills. Barbara has been a key participant in the Prince George’s County EDC’s EmpowerHER Summits and the She Means Business series. Through her work, she has made a significant impact on youth development in Prince George’s County, equipping young leaders with a global perspective, professional skills, and the confidence to pursue opportunities beyond local borders.”
As Going Global reaches this incredible milestone, the organization is seeking community support to help even more students step into the world stage. Donations to their scholarship fund can be made through their GoFundMe campaign or directly via their website. Every contribution helps bridge the gap for the next generation of global leaders.

Maryland.gov - Governor Moore Announces Additional Employment Support for Impacted Federal Workers
ANNAPOLIS, MD — Governor Wes Moore today announced the launch of a new process to streamline hiring for four critical and hard-to-fill position types across the state government. The governor directed actions to streamline hiring to modernize state government and to support job-seeking federal workers impacted by federal layoffs and firings. Under the Maryland Department of Budget Management, this initiative creates one-stop-shop job pages for four position types – Human Resources, Procurement Officers, Accountants, and Fiscal Accounts Technicians – where federal workers can apply for jobs across agencies and locations with a single application.
“Today’s actions mark the latest in our commitment to protect federal public servants against these attacks from Washington and connect them with opportunities to serve our state,” said Gov. Moore. “This new streamlined process will help us hire qualified applicants more quickly, bridge the employment gap, and grow our economy. Maryland is mobilizing, and together, we will leave no one behind.”

Washington Business Journal- Adventist HealthCare's new Fort Washington hospital could break ground next year.
Adventist HealthCare still needs significant Maryland funding before it can break ground on a new Fort Washington Medical Center, but its new president says construction could start as early as next year if it can secure about half of the $150 million it’s been seeking.
Daffodil Baez, who started in the role Jan. 27, says she picked up where predecessor Eunmee Shim left off with an advocacy campaign to lock in a crucial funding commitment from Maryland. The project would establish a new acute-care facility and outpatient medical office building at 7707 Kaydot Road.
