Last night was historic for the Prince George's County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) as it hosted its first Latino 'Thirsty (For Business) Thursday' networking event at El Carbonero Restaurant in Hyattsville, Maryland. Well known as EDC's signature networking event, last night's event was especially significant because it was focused on introducing the Latino business community to the toolbox of business development services that the EDC has to encourage and assist in business growth. Joined by EDC's Latino Business Development Specialist Rocio Treminio-Lopez, EDC President and CEO Jim Coleman kicked off Latino "Thirsty (For Business) Thursday" (T4BT) by welcoming local Latino business owners and dignitaries to this one of a kind event.

Prince George's County Youth CareerConnect Program Graduates Accumulate More Than $3 Million In Scholarship Awards

his afternoon, Prince George's County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) President and CEO Jim Coleman joined officials from the Prince George's County Public Schools and the Prince George's County Youth CareerConnect Program (YCC) in celebrating the second YCC graduating class and honoring the memory of the former principal of Parkdale High School, Ms. Tanya L. Washington. Collectively, the 85 seniors from Fairmont Heights and Bladensburg High Schools who participated in the YCC program were awarded more than $3.4 million in scholarships to attend college, an accomplishment that Mr. Coleman highlighted as an important step toward a successful future.

Last Thursday, the Prince George's County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and their 'posse' descended upon Fishnet Restaurant in College Park for the June 2017 edition of 'Thirsty (For Business) Thursday' for a night filled with high-powered networking in a quaint restaurant that creates a soothing tropical ambiance in the heart of one of the nation's biggest college towns. EDC President & 'Chief Excitement Officer' Jim Coleman welcomed the local businesses to not only network and start the process of making deals but to also support the Fishnet Restaurant as it a locally owned business. Over 100 business owners were excited to speak with each other about business opportunities in the aquatic environment.

On Wednesday, the Town of Upper Marlboro took major steps toward the future as it broke ground to make way for a new addition to expand the Town Hall and make renovations to the existing Town Hall structure.  County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III and EDC President and CEO Jim Coleman were among notable dignitaries who joined Board of Commissioners President Jim Storey and the Town Commissioners of Upper Marlboro for the groundbreaking ceremony.  Joined at the podium by Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller, Senate Majority Leader Douglas J.J. Peters, Delegate Joseph Vallario, and Delegate Marvin Holmes, Mr. Coleman served as the guest speaker for this momentous occasion and spoke about the rich history of the Town.  He likened the future of Upper Marlboro to a Shining City Upon a Hill.
