Laurel’s 2027 business support grants open for applications on October 2

Businesses in Laurel will soon have access to new funding opportunities designed to support storefront investment, business expansion and employment as the City prepares to open applications for its Fiscal Year 2027 business support grants.

As reported by The Business Monthly, applications open at 3 p.m. on Friday, October 2, for three programs: the Main Street Business Relocation Grant, Main Street Façade Improvement Grant and Returning Citizens Employment Grant.

For businesses operating within Prince George’s County, these programs demonstrate how targeted local investment can help reduce some of the costs associated with opening, improving and growing a business.

The Main Street Business Relocation Grant provides reimbursements of up to $10,000 to help businesses relocate or establish operations in vacant storefronts within Laurel’s Main Street area. By encouraging businesses to occupy available commercial space, the program can support both individual entrepreneurs and the continued economic activity of the surrounding business district.

The Main Street Façade Improvement Grant provides qualifying businesses with reimbursement ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 for approved exterior improvements. The program has a total grant fund of $50,000, with qualifying projects funded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Laurel’s Returning Citizens Employment Grant provides up to $10,000 to eligible businesses that hire a returning citizen. In addition to supporting employment opportunities, the initiative provides participating employers with resources that can help offset costs associated with expanding their workforce.

Together, these programs illustrate the role that strategic economic development investments can play in strengthening commercial corridors, encouraging business occupancy, improving the physical appearance of business districts and connecting residents with employment.

For Prince George’s County entrepreneurs, particularly those considering Laurel’s Main Street area, the upcoming application period represents an opportunity to explore resources that could support their next stage of growth.
