Prince George’s County Companies Awarded State Grants to Advance Innovation Infrastructure
Largo, MD — The Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation (PGCEDC) proudly congratulates two outstanding Prince George’s County-based companies, HighT-Tech and Medcura, for being selected as recipients of the State of Maryland’s Build Our Future Grant Pilot Program. These competitive awards reflect the county’s growing strength in clean technology and biotechnology innovation.
On June 10, 2025, Governor Wes Moore announced the Maryland Department of Commerce had awarded $6.95 million across 10 projects to support infrastructure development in critical innovation sectors. Prince George’s County companies received nearly $1.34 million in total—further solidifying the county’s position as a hub for forward-thinking science and technology enterprises.
HighT-Tech, a clean-tech spinout from the University of Maryland, College Park and Johns Hopkins University, received $1 million to construct pilot manufacturing infrastructure to commercialize an innovative, electrified, rapid high-temperature manufacturing process. This process will disrupt the production of clean-tech materials, including advanced batteries and hydrogen electrolyzers.
Medcura, a biotechnology firm developing proprietary products for bleeding management solutions, received $333,333 to transform its headquarters into a fully integrated “end-to-end” manufacturing facility. This expansion will not only increase production capacity but will also bring all operations back to Maryland, enhancing local job creation and strengthening the state’s biotech ecosystem.
PGCEDC Business Development Director for Manufacturing and Warehousing Jose Burnes, Executive Director for Business Development Larry Hentz, and Director of Innovation & Entrepreneurship Alicia Moran have each worked closely with both HighT-Tech and Medcura over the years—providing vital resources, technical support, and access to networks that have helped incubate their growth.
“These awards are a testament to the innovation, persistence, and vision of our local companies,” said Jose Burnes. “Prince George’s County is home to world-class entrepreneurs and researchers, and we are proud to help them scale, manufacture, and make an impact.”
The Build Our Future Grant Pilot Program—launched under the Governor’s Innovation Economy Infrastructure Act of 2023—supports the development of innovation infrastructure in high-growth industries such as advanced manufacturing, biotechnology, quantum, cybersecurity, and clean tech. The program reflects Maryland’s continued commitment to economic growth, job creation, and inclusive prosperity.
Prince George’s County continues to rise as a premier location for business, research, and innovation, and PGCEDC remains committed to supporting the county’s innovation ecosystem at every stage of development.
