Prince George’s County’s growing role as a destination for culture, entertainment and entrepreneurship was on full display with Afro Plus Fest, a three-day celebration at Northwest Stadium that brought together music, culture, local vendors and members of the African diaspora.
As reported by Micha Green of The Washington Informer, Afro Plus Fest founder and Prince George’s County native Michael “Legendary Mike” Awasonya brought the festival to the County after hosting a one-day event at RFK Stadium in 2025. Awasonya described Prince George’s County as home to one of the nation’s most vibrant African diaspora communities and emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for local vendors, artists and creators as the festival grew.
For Prince George’s County, large-scale cultural events represent more than entertainment.
