Nonprofit organizations play an important role in the economic strength of Prince George’s County, providing services that support residents while contributing to workforce development, community stability and employment.
As reported by The BayNet, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer and Maryland Comptroller Brooke Lierman recently visited nonprofit organizations in Prince George’s and Charles counties to highlight the work these organizations are doing in their communities. Congressman Hoyer’s office also reported that the visits were intended to discuss the organizations’ commitment to serving residents throughout Maryland’s Fifth Congressional District. Deja Vu
For Prince George’s County, the economic impact of a strong nonprofit sector extends beyond charitable services. Organizations that address workforce readiness, housing stability, food access and other community needs help remove barriers that can prevent residents from fully participating in the local economy.
That work also has implications for the County’s business community. A strong local economy depends on a stable workforce and communities where residents have access to the resources necessary to work, build careers and pursue entrepreneurship.
Recognizing and strengthening the County’s nonprofit ecosystem can therefore complement traditional economic-development strategies. Partnerships among government, nonprofits and the private sector can help address community needs while creating the conditions for businesses and residents to thrive.
