COLLEGE PARK, Md., Jan. 14, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Governor Wes Moore today joined University of Maryland President Darryll J. Pines and IonQ President and Chief Executive Officer Peter Chapman to announce the "Capital of Quantum" Initiative – a landmark public-private partnership that will catalyze $1 billion in investments to position Maryland as a global leader in quantum information science and technology. The initiative was announced during an event highlighting the Governor's economic growth agenda for the 2025 Legislative Session and hosted at IonQ, a leading quantum computing and networking firm partially founded on UMD research and headquartered in the university's Discovery District.

Patient First opens new walk-in clinic in Capitol Heights

Walk-in clinic chain Patient First will open its newest D.C.-area location in Capitol Heights, Maryland, on Jan. 30.

It will be Patient First’s fourth location in Prince George’s County and its 22nd in the D.C. region.

The new center, at 1670 Ritchie Station Court, will provide walk-in, non-appointment access to both urgent and primary care services year-round. On-site services include X-ray, lab work, prescriptions and occupational health services for both employees and employers.

Little Miner Taco opened its first restaurant at a food hall in Mount Rainier before moving to a stand-alone building in Brentwood and opening locations in Rockville and D.C. You can also find their food at Capital One Arena.

State Approves $75 Million Contract For Firms To Manage Key Bridge Reconstruction

The Board of Public Works approved a $75 million contract Wednesday to hire three firms that will oversee construction management services on the Francis Scott Key Bridge, as the replacement project gets under way in earnest this spring.

The companies, a consortium calling itself Bridging Maryland Partnership, will be responsible for planning, engineering, surveying, construction management and more.

Adventist HealthCare Names Fort Washington Hospital’s Next Leader

Adventist HealthCare has identified the next leader of its Fort Washington Medical Center, after Eunmee Shim stepped out of the role at the end of December.

The Gaithersburg health system said Tuesday it has named Daffodil Baez, an executive already within the organization, as the southern Prince George’s County hospital’s president. She is expected to assume the role within the next few weeks.
