PRESENTERS

Karen Killian  /  President, LMD

With 35 years of business and agency experience, Karen leads a growing team of marketers and creatives who deliver strategic communications solutions to government and private sector clients. Karen drives growth for the company and its clients. She develops and oversees branding, research, and marketing initiatives for government, education, technology, nonprofit, and private sector clients in challenging business climates. Karen has successfully positioned and promoted high-profile clients such as The U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Small Business Administration, Time Life, and multiple programs for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

In Karen’s 21 years at LMD, she has expanded the agency from a local design shop to a renowned data-driven, full-service, integrated branding and communications agency, increasing revenue by over 400% and growing the staff from 20 to 57 people across 18 states. Karen recently led the successful acquisition of LMD by the MarCom Group, merging two successful women-owned firms into a powerhouse communications agency of almost 90+ people.

Kristen Newton  /  Director of Insights and Strategy, LMD

Kristen is a multi-faceted, versatile communications professional with a passion for using research to find meaningful insights and uncover opportunities. Kristen leads market research, intelligence gathering, and brand assessments; and conceives, writes, and implements strategic marketing plans, branding strategies, and message platforms. She also oversees the editorial department and coordinates the development of all written work in the agency. Kristen is a trained and experienced moderator and facilitator who leads in-depth interviews, focus groups, trainings, and workshops.

 

In her 30-year career, she has developed and managed high-visibility brands for public- and private-sector clients such as University of Maryland, the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the ADDY Award-winning Trollbeads international advertising campaign.
