Prince George's County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III, and His Economic Development Team Visit SSAI

Largo, MD - Yesterday, Prince George's County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III, and his economic development team, including James 'Jim' Coleman, visited the headquarters of Science Systems and Applications, Inc. (SSAI), a provider of scientific, engineering, technology and research support services. Dr. Colleen Hartman, Director of Sciences and Exploration at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center joined the County Delegation for the visit.

SSAI is a Prince George's County-based business that has grown from a one-person operation to an organization employing more than 300 people in the County. Now, one of the leading providers of scientific research and development (R&D), engineering, and information analytics services across the range of Earth and space science disciplines, SSAI employs more than 700 full-time employees across the country. The company has been recognized by numerous community organizations as good corporate citizens, and has evolved as a business with a 37-year record of successful performance on more than 100 contracts awarded by federal agencies and research institutions, such as NASA, NOAA, NIH and USDA.

During the visit and tour, SSAI President Anoop N. Mehta presented a short history about how the company had been founded as a small operation by Om and Sara Bahethi, and how it has grown into a major economic contributor within the county. His team gave presentations about work they were doing on projects such as CATS, GPM, and GMAO, explaining how the information derived from their activities could be used for decision-making applications.

"We're very excited to have County Executive Rushern Baker and his team here," noted Anoop N. Mehta, CPA, GGMA, SSAI's President. "This is how to understand the capabilities, contributions, and concerns of county businesses in order to support them most effectively. We're also gratified to have agencies such as NASA Goddard Space Flight Center that provide economic drivers for businesses and the county."

Mr. Coleman was impressed with SSAI's community involvement and their commitment to hiring Prince George's County residents. "It is great when such important corporate citizens recognize the need to support the communities in which they reside," said Jim Coleman. "We look forward to a strong partnership with SSAI and assisting them in feeding the pipeline of residents looking for well-paying employment close to home".
