Largo, MD – On March 23, 2012, County Executive Rushern L. Baker III and Gwen McCall, President and CEO of the Prince George's County Economic Development Corporation, addressed the tenants of Beco Business Park in Lanham, MD. Beco tenants were given an overview of EDC, and the programs and services it offers to business owners.

"We are here to serve your needs. We would like to be the front door for your company," said McCall. "My team and I are working to attract, expand, and retain businesses in Prince George's County."

The presentation included discussion of County Executive Rushern Baker's new $50 million EDI Fund. Business Development Specialists shared the program goals of the EDI Fund, its uses, program criteria, geographic priority areas and the application process timeline. Detailed Q&A provided business owners the necessary information needed to apply for the EDI Fund.

County Executive Baker stressed the importance of the EDI Fund, saying, "It is our hope that business owners will find the EDI Fund an exciting opportunity for growth because we want to see your business goals achieved." Mr. Baker also shared his vision for his FY 2013 $3.2 billion budget, stating that he will add an additional $21 million for education, refuse layoffs and furloughs for teachers, and focus on public safety. Additionally, Baker will use more money to spur green businesses.

"We need to provide more to our local businesses. We've relied on residential property taxes for far too long," said Baker.

Ms. McCall encouraged the tenants of Beco Business Park to call on the Economic Development Corporation. "We are committed to monitoring the needs of your business, and the EDC is in the business of finding opportunities for you," said McCall.
