TRADE MISSION to TANZANIA

Mission Summary

Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and the Leon H. Sullivan Foundation will work together to help businesses and educational institutions explore opportunities to cooperate and expand their company markets and possibly operations in Africa during the upcoming Summit VIII hosted in Arusha, Tanzania. EDC is most interested in bringing traders from across the continent to meet in a Trade Room environment of business-to-business meetings with U.S. companies traveling as a part of the charter delegation. Summit VIII will also offer opportunity for delegates to experience the wonders of Tanzania such as Manyara & Ngorongoro Crater and Conservation Area, Mount Kilimanjaro, Misali Island and The Serengeti National Park. Summit VIII will close with a visit to Zanzibar Island.

EDC proposes to bring a 20-person Prince George’s County delegation to Tanzania for a 10-day trade mission on May 30-June 8, 2008. Our delegates will join other U.S. delegates expected to number as many as 500. Summit VIII will offer opportunities for partnerships and joint ventures with in-country partners. More than 2,000 African and American participants are expected in Arusha for Summit VIII.

This mission will be based on the model of the successful delegation mission trips that EDC has taken over the last few years to India, the People’s Republic of China, Republics of The Gambia, Ghana and Senegal. This will be a serious business mission focused on opportunities in Africa for U.S. companies in alternative energy; IT security and communications; health care; manufacturing; architecture and engineering; construction/construction equipment and materials; tourism and medical equipment.
